Gotta Love: Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

Hello there, everyone! 🙂

So, today, I have another installment of ‘Gotta Love’ and I’d like to talk about the Naked Basics Palette.

By now, everyone and their mothers have tried and loved this palette and I’m no exception.

So why do I think you just ‘gotta love’ this palette?

I got this beauty pretty recently and I just fell in love. Even though all the Naked palettes are so beautiful, I do think this is my favorite one, mostly because I have used every single color. I think the only possible ‘issue’ that I’d have with the normal Naked-s is that I’d never be able to use every shade because there is so many! I do have to say that the Naked-s are gorgeous – the fact that they are different toned is wonderful and I just love the Naked 3: the pink tones are so beautiful and just perfect for spring and summer! But enough about that… back to the Naked Basics!

I feel as though this palette is just a perfect starter item. It has so many beautiful shades and all of them are really useful. The shade range is just amazing. There are so many possibilities for so many looks with only 6 shades! It’s also a great size, so it fits in a purse or a makeup bag easily. Also, plus points, there’s a mirror so you can touch up your makeup on the go, as well.

Here are the shades:

The three lightest shades are Venus, Foxy and W.O.S. (these are perfect for the base and as brow highlighters)

Venus – this is a beautiful, champagne/metallic white. Mine has a bit of a shimmer (probably because I used a shimmery white I have and forgot to clean the brush and used it with this one, but hey! I’m not complaining, it’s great), nothing crazy though, it’s like a highlighter, just adds a bit of ‘life’. (this a great highlight color for under the brow bones.) It’s really similar to the Velveteen Bunny shade from Too Faced Matte Eye Palette.

Foxy – a light yellow. Amazing base shade, great for a warmer smokey eye, but also – you can wear it on its own for an everyday look, if you just want a little bit of color. 🙂

W.O.S. – a baby pink, much like Fresh Linen from the Too Faced Matte Eye Palette. I really like this pink – it’s a beautiful shade which I, once again, wear on its own.

The three darker shades are Naked2, Faint and Crave.

Here are the swatches:

Naked 2 – this is a beige/light brown shade and it’s my go-to blending shade. For some reason every time I needed to blend 2 (or more) shades, I ended up using this one. It’s just a great neutral shade, perfect for those natural looks.

Faint – a (light) brown shade. I’m pretty sure every ‘basics’ palette needs one of these. It’s a wonderful crease shade, it gives any look so much more depth and definition. (this one I’d say is like Chinchilla from the Matte Eye Palette)

Crave – I’ve been looking for the matte black eyeshadow for the longest time (I actually was pretty frustrated when I saw that the Matte Eye Palette didn’t have one) and I’m happy to say that I’ve finally found it. 🙂 This shade is wonderfully pigmented and the color is incredible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really love how it’s a combination of both warm and cool tones, making it so much easier to create smokey eyes and any other look that your heart desires.
Also, it’s great for creating those two-shade-smokey eye looks. Any of the 3 lightest shades on the lid and a darker one in the crease. Blend it out, add some mascara and eyeliner (this is optional, of course) and voila! A wonderful spring/summer everyday eye look!
I actually used this palette for creating a look that I did a tutorial on, which you can check out here. (#shamelessselfpromo) The only other shade I used was Coffee Bean from the Too Faced Matte Eye Palette, but you could probably use a mixture of Faint and Crave.
So, enough chit-chat. How would I rate the Naked Basics Palette?
Shade range? 9.9/10
I think it’s stunning, I just wish there was a darker brown. It’s just a personal preference, nothing else. 🙂
Packaging? 9/10
Well, I’d give it a 10, but I sometimes have a bit of trouble trying to open it, so… 9. I’m quite a clutz and I’m pretty weak, though, hehe.
Texture? 10/10
Love it! It doesn’t flake at all.
Pigmentation? 10/10
Now, I’ve read so many reviews saying how it’s not pigmented enough or how the colours are of really poor consistency, and I’d just like to throw it out there: these are my personal opinions, not me stating facts. 🙂
Overall? 10/10
I adore this palette. Really. It’s currently my favorite one and I think it’ll stay that way for a while. Well done, Urban Decay, indeed well done. 🙂
  2. I got this palette just recently too and I love it to bits! So suitable for daily wear and office looks too. And I agree how the other Naked Palettes provide so many choices (12 shades!) that it’s difficult to use all of them often enough… I feel bad that I’m not giving all the shades equal lovin haha
